Remember, before giving aid to a patron. Lifeguards must get consent before they provide aid and care
Burns
- Stop the burning by removing the victim from the source of the burn
- Cool the burned area with large amounts of cold tap water at least until pain is relieved
- Cover the burned area loosely with a sterile dressing
- Take steps to minimize shock, such as by keeping the victim from getting chilled or overheated
- Comfort and reassure the victim
Cut, Laceration, or Scrapes
- Control any bleeding
- Clean the wound thoroughly with soap
- After bleeding stops, remove the dressing and apply antibiotic
- Cover the wound with a sterile dressing and bandage
Seizures
-Protect the person from injury by moving nearby objects away from the person
-Position the person on his or her side, if possible, after the seizure passes so
that uids (saliva, blood, vomit) can drain from the mouth
Stroke
- Call EMS if the patron faces any of symptoms
- Face weak on one side
- Weakness or numbness in one arm
- Slurred speach or trouble speaking
